Capital & Country 882KMS
Capital & Country Touring Route leaves Melbourne and makes its way through inland Victoria, pauses in Canberra and then heads east to the harbour city, Sydney.
Drive from Melbourne to Sydney via Canberra and you will be rewarded and surprised by the rich history and natural highlights along the way. The Capital & Country Touring Route takes in stunning countryside, the Murray River, serves up seasonal produce and wine and introduces you to gold history and welcoming regional towns and villages along the way.
Impressive Victorian buildings stand as reminder of the rich gold history built from one of the world's most exciting gold rushes. More gold was found in Bendigo than anywhere else in the world. Today art, culture, food, wine and heritage attractions are the new riches of Bendigo.
With its source in the High Country, The Murray River is home to the world's largest fleet of paddle steamers that berth at the historic Port of Echuca-Moama. Fish, ski or swim in the world's longest navigable river, board a cruise or relax and explore the river in a houseboat. Tee off on one of the many quality golf courses that line its banks. On the New South Wales-Victoria border, Albury Wodonga is a thriving centre and the gateway to the Great Alpine Road scenic touring route.
Capital & Country Touring Route crosses the border and heads to Australia's capital city Canberra, home to our national institutions including the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, and science playground Questacon.
Call in at Berrima to peruse the antique and craft stores before continuing to Sydney. Famous for iconic architecture including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, the city offers great beaches, fast-paced entertainment, shopping and a beautiful harbour.
