Self-drive the Great Alpine Road - a real adventure ride that takes you past awesome mountain ranges and through breathtaking valleys, around beautiful lakes and sparkling waterways that spread out from the upper reaches of Victoria’s High Country to the Gippsland Lakes on the coast.
During the summer months you can enjoy splendid walks exploring the gorgeously dramatic Alpine National Park, where you’ll find ten of the state’s highest peaks covered in brilliant wildflowers and home to unique wildlife. You can pitch your tent on the grassy banks of an alpine lake, climb rugged rock faces, go hang gliding off the escarpments at Mt Buffalo, experience the exhilaration of white water rafting its rivers, or ride horses along the bushranger tracks up in the high plains.
Then in winter you can bring your skis or snowboard and ride some of Australia’s most beautiful slopes around Dinner Plain and Falls Creek, and then try out the powder at Mt Hotham, or just take in the breathtaking views.
You’ll also find plenty of alternative pedal-powered adventures along the Cycle the Murray to Mountains and East Gippsland Rail Trails, or by going mountain biking along the many downhill and cross-country trails.
